The oil interest has been stated as the primary objective for capitalist engagement in Middle East politics but something deeper than the interest in resources is holding the contradiction between western modern world view and the Middle East traditional world view. The deep underlying contradiction is in the ideology of the two cultures ironically sharing the same foundation of spiritual monotheism that has strangely produced opposite world systems: the open versus closed, freedom versus control management, participatory versus dictatorial governance and democratic secular versus theocratic radicalism.
